2018 Season - Week 22

The Dynasty Goes On & On & On

What a disappointing end to the season, there was some good D, some great punting but neither offence was up to much, combining for just 16 points. With this victory the New England Patriots dynasty have over the past 18 years:- appeared in 9 Superbowls, winning 6 of them. Brady & Belichick have played in the Superbowl in half the season’s they’ve been together and have won a third of the time. They have 6 rings each which is the same as the Steelers have in their whole history and 50% more than the Cowboys or 49ers have managed in their entire existences. BUMSBowl XXII AP took a 3-0 lead on Stephen Gostkowski’s Field Goal a third of the way through the game and held that lead until 2 minutes left in the third quarter when Daz tied the game up on Greg Zuerlein’s kick. When Sony Michel scored with 7 minutes left Daz took a 5 point lead after the PAT and despite AP getting another field goal Daz held on to win 9-7. With that victory the Underachieving Bastards tied the Langley Raiders with a record four BUMSBowl victories each. All-BUMS 2018 The 2018 BUMS Player of the Year is Pat Mahomes who was rated best QB by 11 of the 13 owners who voted, scoring 33 points – the highest total since LaDainian Tomlinson (41) in 2006. Todd Gurley makes his third start (23 pts) in four years with rookie Saquon Barkley joining him in the backfield, while Alvin Kamara is a backup after starting last year, along with Christian McCaffrey. Tyreek Hill (22 pts) leads the receivers with Michael Thomas (a backup last year) and Davante Adams starting for the second time in 3 years. Antonio Brown is a backup for the second time (with 3 starts), along with DeAndre Hopkins (1 start) and Zach Ertz. Rams high scoring Greg Zuerlein starts for the second consecutive year as does their Head Coach Sean McVay. The 13 BUMS who voted made 51 different choices for their favourite players (see votes attached). Most TD passes in a season In last week’s Anatomy of a Champion I didn’t mention that our 2018 Player of the Year and Papas Fritas winning QB Pat Mahomes passed for 50 TDs this year, tying the second highest season total. In fact a key to winning the league is to have a top scoring in QB. In 2004 Peyton Manning threw 49 scores and Wayne won the Papas Fritas and in 2007 Tom Brady threw 50 and Andy H won the Premiership. In 2013 when Peyton Manning set the record of 55 scores Marcus set the BUMS single season record total of 672 points he won the Conference. Supergames With only 7 players involved in the Supergames I’ll be sending out a separate email to just them. Superfood A huge thanks to Cheryl as always, for a Super Bowl feast of Burgers and Hot Dogs to fortify the five fans in attendance through to 3am. Cheryl on behalf of all BUMS that have attended across the season can I say a huge thank you for all the fine food you have prepared, and the same goes to Johnnie and Marcus our other hosts this season.
